Heath W. Hoglund, Esq.

Mr. Heath W. Hoglund focused his practice in the area of intellectual property law and represented clients before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and before State and Federal Courts. In the field of patents, he filed, prosecuted and secured patents for a variety of technologies.  He also assisted companies gain brand recognition in the marketplace through the development of trademark rights both in the U.S. and abroad. Mr. Hoglund was an adjunct professor of patent law at the InterAmerican University of Puerto Rico School of Law and a visiting professor of Intellectual Property at the Vytautas Magnus School of Law in Lithuania.

Mr. Hoglund graduated cum laude from the University of Minnesota Law School, which is consistently ranked among the top five public law schools in the U.S.  He also earned a Masters Degree and a Bachelors Degree cum laude in Electrical Engineering from the University of Minnesota.  His undergraduate work focused on biomedical engineering. His graduate work focused on digital signal processing.

Prior to founding H&P, he practiced with Limbach & Limbach, where he assisted high-technology companies such as Sony and National Semiconductor develop their patent portfolios. Before joining Limbach & Limbach, Mr. Hoglund clerked with Merchant & Gould, one of the largest intellectual property law firms in the country.  He also worked as an engineer with AeroSystems Engineering, where he designed electronic test systems for jet engines.

Mr. Hoglund is admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, the U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.  He is also a member of the State Bar of California and the State Bar of Minnesota.

He served on the board of directors for the Technology Entrepreneurs of Puerto Rico (TEPR). He received the Wiley M. Manuel Award for Pro Bono Legal Services from the State Bar of California in 1999. He received the Outstanding Volunteer in Public Service Award from the Bar Association of San Francisco for his representation of indigent clients in 1998. Mr. Hoglund was a founding member of the Asociación de Profesionales de la Propiedad Intelectual de Puerto Rico.

On 2007, Mr. Hoglund stepped down as an active partner and left H&P to join the multinational company Dolby Laboratories as its Chief Patent Counsel.
