Biography: Mr. Samuel F. Pamias-Portalatin focuses his practice in the area of intellectual property law in Puerto Rico. He has litigated trademark, trade dress, false advertising, distribution and unfair competition cases in the federal courts and has represented clients before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. In addition to litigation, Mr. Pamias has extensive experience in the clearance, prosecution, registration, protection, enforcement, maintenance, and transfer of trademarks in Puerto Rico, the United States and worldwide. He also advises clients on copyright registration and infringement issues. Education: Mr. Pamias graduated from the Interamerican University School of Law where he served as President of the student counsel. He was also honored with the Dean's Leadership Award. During law school he was a visiting student at the Fundación Ortega y Gasset in Toledo, Spain, where he studied European Community and Private International Law. Also, during law school, Mr. Pamias clerk for Prof. Alberto O. Jimenez in the areas of extraordinary writs and for Prof. Maria Dolores Fernos in the area of Constitutional law. Mr. Pamias earned his Bachelors of Arts in Social Science, magna cum laude, from the University of Puerto Rico with a major in Political Science. He also earned an Associate Degree in Arts in the State of Florida. Admissions: Mr. Pamias is admitted to practice as an attorney and a notary by the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the United States District Court for the District of Puerto Rico, the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, the United States Court of International Trade in New York and the United States Court of Federal Claims in Washington, DC. Memberships: Mr. Pamias is a member of the International Trademark Association (INTA). He serves on the advisory commission of the State Department of Puerto Rico for revision of the trademark laws.
